I feel that this company is very difficult to deal with and when they mess up they are not willing to expedite the process. I will never use this company in the future for securing my travel again. I provided the policy number and the first person I spoke to never corrected it as it was given to me incorrectly in the first place and I have email confirmation to prove this! The result is that my claim sat for almost 2 weeks until I called even though my phone number was on the claim. I just want everyone looking for travel insurance to heed caution with Travel Insured International!

I am disappointed in this company; I have never had to use travel insurance and I have been on many vacations. When you purchase insurance it is to ensure your money is safe and you are not making a bad choice depending on whatever the future may hold for your life at a later date.
Unfortunately unless the event that prevents you from traveling fits into specific detailed criteria that is listed in fine print then your money will not be guaranteed.
I am planning to make it well known to all of my associates and every travel agency in the area all of the bad reviews that are on the internet and quite possibly save someone the money I lost.

This company is penny-wise, but pound-foolish. Because of an airline cancelation, I had to drive to the next city on my itinerary. I incurred additional expenses for gas, tolls, and long-term parking at the other city, totalling about $150. By taking this action, I managed to avoid losing out on the entire trip (an Amazon cruise – if I had missed the boat, I would have been completely out of luck), which would have been a loss somewhere north of $5000.

Travel Insured denied my parking expenses (“not covered”), and denied the expenses for driving back home at the end of the trip, since that flight wasn’t canceled. But of course, I wasn’t on it. Apparently, they thought that my car should have magically transported itself to my home town. They wouldn’t pay for gas because I was foolish enough to fill up on the way home, instead of on the way down. Their total payout: $7.

Next time, I’ll just sit on my hands and say, “Oh, they canceled my flight. Trip canceled. Pay me the total cost!” Morons.

Edit: Upon reviewing my claim (I had to get shirty with them to trigger this), more rational heads prevailed, and Travel Insured decided to pay my claim. Since the entire claim was still less than the premium I had paid for the policy, this was probably not a difficult decision.

So, will I use them in the future? I might. I suspect that almost all insurance companies work very hard to avoid paying claims, and you have to lean on them.

I had a claim and like some other reviewers found this site and became concerned by some of the reviews. As background, I purchased a policy about a year in advance of a European river cruise for my wife and me. Travel Insured International was a few hundred dollars cheaper than what my travel agent offered from another company. Several months later my wife was found to have cancer and would be receiving chemo at the time of the cruise. The doctor said she could not travel and I canceled the cruise a few months in advance. Travel Insured International sent me a claim packet which required a fair amount of documentation.. I sent it to them and 5 days later received a phone call saying that they had approved the claim in full and issued a check which I received about 5 days later. The total cost of the trip was about $10150 – the cruise line refunded $5000 and Travel Insured International paid me the remaining $5150. Based on my experience, I recommend Travel Insured International and will use them again. They kept me informed during the process and paid promptly.

I am adding my experience which is currently ongoing. This has been a terribly frustrating situation. I find it a joke that this company considers itself to be family oriented considering that my issue is totally family related. This is the FB message I sent last week basically stating what is going on (of which I got no reply):

I am having the worst time with your claims department and customer service. This is an incredibly long story, but I will try to be succinct.

My father in law DIED on the tale end of our trip in Europe in September of 2014. We had to rush home to be with him (he passed away on our way home).

We filed a claim because as we saw it: We had a trip. We had an emergency. We had to come home ASAP. We bought travelers insurance. We filed a claim.

We submitted all of the appropriate paperwork including death certificate, however your claims department is now saying that they need to access my father in law’s medical records to verify things. My father in law died SUDDENLY and with nothing to his name other than $900. HE HAD NO EXECUTOR. HE HAD NO POWER OF ATTORNEY. He was not expecting to die. It was SUDDEN. He had appointed NO ONE to act for him.

In order for us to continue with our claim my husband would have to file to be an executor to his father’s non-existent estate. A process which costs upwards of 3k, while our claim is little more than 7k.

I called and asked to speak to the person handling our claim on Wednesday 1/21/2015. We were told he was busy and he would call us back within 24 hours. As of the time of this writing I have not received a call back.

I would love a resolution to this, as I strongly feel you are doing what you can to not pay out.

***I did receive an email from the person handling the claim, but have been unable to reach him via telephone. We were told that we had to file for executor by one of the claims reps, not specifically the person handling the claim. In the first email he sent us he stated he needed paperwork showing who the executor is. A claim service rep confirmed what he said and said that they will be unable to proceed with the claim without it. Michael is now saying all he needs is an authorization form, of which he sent to us.

I am confused as to what they want, and why we are be treated like this. As I see it: We booked a trip, we had to suddenly leave in the middle of the trip, we rushed home for an emergency, and we filed a claim. But the headache that we have been through with this insurance company has been more than what I expected.

    Still waiting on resolution…

My husband and I bought Travel Insured Int’l coverage for a family trip this summer ’14 to South America. On the return trip two pieces of baggage were damaged. We filed a claim and sent in pictures. Travel Insured Int’l wanted to know the tour company in South America, the contact number abroad, even our travel itinerary. After supplying that information Travel Insured Int’l then requested that we prove not our Homeowner’s Insurance did not cover the claim. We had to ask our Allstate representative to send in a letter stating the obvious, that homeowner’s insurance did not cover luggage. After a couple of weeks Travel Insured Int’l called to say that our claim amount would be cut in half because we did not have receipts for the purchase of the bags. Who keeps receipts for 4 year old luggage? This company makes you jump through hoops on a legitimate claim! STAY AWAY, save yourself a headache!

After reviewing with the Claims Managers, Travel Insured International reported that all claims regarding lost, stolen, or damaged luggage do indeed require receipts to be submitted for the expenses claimed. However, Travel insured does give consideration to insured travelers when receipts are not provided, and reimburse 50% of the items value. We would like to advise customers to please refer to your Certificate of Insurance for a full explanation of the benefits included in your policy.

I’ll begin by saying I rarely write reviews on services I receive from various companies. However I do read reviews… I planned a trip to Destin, FL, for my summer vacation and ended up purchasing this company’s travel insurance. I’ve never purchased travel insurance in the past but due to certain medical situations in my immediate family I felt the need for it as a ” just in case.”
Unfortunately, on a completely unrelated situation, I had to cancel my vacation. As I began the claim filing process, I started reading all the reviews and noted some negative reviews. I knew, by reading my claims form and stipulations, I had a legitimate claim. However some of these reviews had me questioning my upcoming dealings with the claims department. I even spoke to an attorney to verify my claim and prepared for a future legal situation before I had talked to anyone in the claims department.
Come to find out, my claims experience was pleasant and I had no problems what so ever…
I filled out the forms they sent me, emailed them any follow up paperwork and 15 days after they received my forms I was reimbursed.
I spent a lot of time questioning my future outcome due to the reviews. But, like I said, the process was quick and easy.
I’m very pleased with the services and people I dealt with while during my claim experience. Don’t let some of these reviews hamper your view like I almost did.

I wish I would have read the reviews on this company before I purchased insurance. I did not make an informed decision and paid for it dearly.

I purchased insurance through travel insured after finding out there was a mugging and kidnapping in one of the cities I was visiting on a cruise. But, these actions were minimal compared to the reason I had to cancel. My mother was diagnosed and had surgery for Stage 4 cancer days before the cruise. I was relieved to find out I had plenty of time to file the claim as this hit the family hard and I needed time to recover.

I submitted my claim and after an over 2 month investigation they disqualified the claim because my 57 year old mother visited the hospital within the last 6 months. And that proved to be their slick talk for symptom of pre-existing condition. How can you have pre-existing cancer? You either have it or not!

If you are reading this GO TO ANOTHER COMPANY!

After reviewing with the Claims Managers, Travel Insured International reported that the purchased policy was not waived as it was not purchased at time of initial deposit. The policy excluded pre-existing medical conditions, and the insured cannot be disabled from travel at the time the insurance is purchased. The trip cancellation benefit is reviewed for unforeseen circumstances that happened after the effective date of your policy. We reviewed according to the policy language and emailed the policy at the time the insurance was purchased.

With all the negative comments, I am compelled to add my positive experience with Travel Insured. I experienced a trip delay when my flight was diverted to a different connecting airport. There were no connecting flights from the diverted airport to my final destination and the airline booked me on a sequence of flights to get me to my final destination. It took an extra day of travel and the airline lost our luggage in the process. The luggage was found a day later and delivered to us. In the meantime, the customer service person at Travel Insured was extremely helpful in trying to help find alternate flights to get us to our destination sooner- she even called me back several times to update me. She authorized our purchasing toiletries and a change of clothes at one of our connecting airports knowing our luggage had already been lost. I submitted receipts for the toiletries and clothing and received prompt reimbursement without any problem. Highly recommend.

I purchased travel insurance while going on a family vacation and wanted to ensure that my husband an I were covered in case of an emergency. Too bad I was the one that needed it. Now 6 months later I am still getting the run around. I have literally sent the same paperwork over to them about 10 times in email, fax and post mail. I have a legitimate claim – and they are dragging their feet hoping I go away – like many others. I urge anyone who has had a concern with them to also report them to the Better Business Bureau. I wish I would have read this sooner – I would have gone somewhere else for insurance – and I also will work with USAA!!

BEWARE. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. When you get the insurance they are nice and friendly and helpful. If you have to cancel the trip though they will stall as long as possible to try and avoid paying. I had to threaten to sue in order to get anything from them. When they did pay they refused to pay the entire amount owed. I’m in process of a major fight right now trying to collect what I should have had 6 months ago.

We are very sorry that Mr. Preciado was not able to take his trip and had an unhappy outcome to his claim.

Travel Insured International reports that the claim has been paid under the Cancel For Any Reason benefit which states that expenses will be reimbursed up to 75%. We would like to advise customers to please read the details of the policy thoroughly so that all requested documents can be obtained and provided in order to receive the full reimbursement for costs due to trip cancellation.

I prefer not to give my real name on a public forum for job related purposes. I would gladly address any questions or comments from Travel Insured Intl or anyone else regarding my comments.

I would NOT recommend Travel Insured Intl. I contacted Travel Insured on the recommendation of my regular insurance company (I’ve notified them as well), well in advance (Sept) of my pending travel (taking place in mid-Oct). Due to the looming govt shutdown in Oct 2013, I was unsure of my work dates being moved or cancelled. Once the shutdown happened, I contacted Travel Insured again for guidance. I wrote down exactly what their representative told me to write down after explaining to her the reason for the change/cancel was the govt shutdown (not like I could make it up), and placed it on the paperwork they requested. (I cancelled my ticket and purchased a separate ticket because I needed to get to work and not be considered AWOL). I submitting the requested paperwork in a timely manner, everything placed just as their representative had stated, and allowed time to pass; I figured they had to do some fact checking. No problem, since I followed their representatives guidance and told the truth. After some time, I had to contact them to find out the status. I was then informed that they were not accepting the govt shutdown as a reason to file a claim. I asked them to reconsider. Their representative stated they would consult their legal team and get back with me. More time passed. I had to contact them AGAIN to find out the status. They informed me that they were denying my claim and sending me (via the US Postal service) the reason why (the govt shutdown was not a good enough reason). Even though I was travelling because of the govt and the govt changed my work days. Why should I purchase Travel Insured if something such as the govt shutdown (work) is not reason enough when the travel was because of the govt in the first place? I’m advising coworkers and military members NOT to purchase travel insurance through Travel Insured Intl.

Let me first say I never review anything, I just don’t have the time. However, if this helps someone from making a decision about choosing Travel Insured International it was worth my time. Crucon the cruises agent sold me the policy and it was quick and easy, and that was the only thing that was. Insurance is something you buy and hope to never use but when you need it, you hope it is there. Here is the short story, my wife and I took a last minute cruise out of New York. On the second night of a seven day cruise we got a call in our cabin, my wife’s father died. We immediately went to the ships front desk to arrange to get a flight back New York when we docked. The only problem was that had about 30 hours before we docked in Bermuda. The cruise ship personnel were great and helped with all the paper work and got us off the ship as soon as they could. The bottom line is we got to the airport and got home.

Here is where the problem with Travel Insured International began. Even though I was not thinking about it I called then as soon as we got back to New York as required in the policy. They told me they were going to open a case and send me an email with the forms. After a week I gathered all the documents that were requested in the e-mail and sent it to them. After a few week of no response they told me they did not get them. I informed them I sent them via certified first class mail; I was told they would get back to me. Another week goes by and I had to call them, still they said a claim adjusted would call me. So believe it or not I waited another week and called them, this time demanded an answer. This time I was promised a claim adjusted would call me back within 24 hours. Well he did, but informed me he did not have all the papers that were required. I put the packet together and sent what he was asking for so I finally realized the game they were playing. The adjusted sensed my anger and reluctantly agreed to accept the papers via fax. Well, I faxed them over and waited; only after a few days did I once again pick up the phone, to wait another couple of day to get a returned call. The adjuster questioned almost every claim and said he would check with the travel agent for the discrepancies.

Here was the outcome; they reimbursed me for 4 of the 7 days of the cruise, so the morning we left the ship was a vacation day. They paid for the flight from Bermuda to New York and that was it. They would not pay for the taxis to and from the airport. It was my fault that I did not get a receipt, but getting home ASAP was the only thing on my mind. When I questioned them, they understood there was no way to get to the other side of Bermuda with luggage and had no doubt I took a taxi. We are only talking about 80 dollars, but they have a policy! Also they covered nothing else that had to do with the emergency, like cruise ship phone calls. Unfortunately these calls can be very expensive, but had to be made
    .
The Bottom line is this, Travel Insured uses all kinds of tactics not to pay legitimate claims. They use all the tricks in the book and if I was not so persistent I would have gotten nothing. I think they count on people giving up and not fighting. Then they do everything not to pay a fair amount. My advise is there are other companies out there, try and find one that does not make filing an insurance claim a second job.

I would not reccommend Travel Insured International. Every time I try to talk to someone about the status of my claim I am given a different reason why the claim is being held up. The company has consistently promised someone would call me back within 24 hours but I never receive a phone call. The managers are never available to talk about my claim no matter what time of day it is. When I finally got through to a claim processor I was told that my claim had been approved, and was being sent to the underwriters for payment only to be told 5 days later when I called that they were still waiting on information from the airline. Their communication and customer service is subpar. It seems like this company likes to give customers the run around in the hopes that they will just give up and go away.

My wife and I were delayed by a day due to bad weather in Crete, and while Agean Airlines paid for a hotel that night and made sure we got on the Lufthansa flight the next day, we missed our flight from New York to Denver and had to purchase new tickets with Delta as Southwest was completely booked (It was Memorial Day weekend.) I sent in my paperwork and just received a check in the mail, so am very happy with our experience with Travel Insured International.

After seeing so many negative comments, I thought telling my positive story would be the least I could do: We went on a trip in Feb 2013. While in HI, a rogue wave sucked off my sons mask. Although we went back & visited that beach many times, and talked to the lifeguards etc., for the remainder of the trip; it was to no avail. When we got back home, although I didn’t think Travel Insured International would do anything, they told us to submit a claim. It was a little back and forth getting a statement from the staff at the beach location, and getting the dive shop to cough up old records. But, in the end they reimbursed us 80% of the cost of the mask. I was satisfied with the process, personnel & the results. I would reccomend this company.

I’ve been using Travel Insured for the past five years. Last month my family and i found ourselves stranded in London due to a snow storm in Paris. This is the first claim i have filed.Travel insured covered all of our expenses while we were stranded and the nights we missed in Paris. I am a very satisfied customer.

I was very happy with their customer service and communication. It did take some time and effort to file the claim, I sent about 35 pages of documentation, but the claim was paid in about two weeks ( I just cashed my check today). Keep all your documentation (it’s helpful to read the directions on how to file a claim before you travel) and make sure your paperwork is complete before you file your claim.

Many people seem to be dissatisfied because they didn’t understand what they were buying or what would be expected of them if they needed to make a claim. Travel insured has earned my loyalty.

I would never recommend Travel Insured International. I purchased their insurance for a big 30th birthday trip I had planned which was $2300. I had to end up canceling because my mother got lung cancer and she needed surgery and I am her primary care taker. They claim her lung cancer was a “pre existing” condition and would not issue a refund. I find it really unbelievable that because my mom has to go through a life threatening surgery and I can’t go on a trip that they will not cover the costs. I have never purchased travel insurance before and I never will again from this company – not to mention the agent who called to tell me my claim had been denied was very cold, not friendly and definitely not compassionate. Awful company to deal with.

Please do not let this Editor Rating fool you — the rating is based only on the features the insurance company “say” they will cover, but it’s not based on the actual customer’s satisfactions with the claims! So whoever gave 5-star rated to Travel Insured International probably has never filed a claim with them before.

I had been a customer with Travel Insured International for years and spent well over $500 buying their products! I had never had any problem with my traveling until this past Thanksgiving holiday. I bought their Trip Protector Lite for my 4-day trip from San Francisco to Boston. On the day before I returned home, I lost my wallet, and so all my credit cards and driver license. I need my driver license (the only government issued photo ID I had with me) to travel back home. I called Travel Insured and asked if they would cover my trip expense IF the TSA would NOT allow me to board a plane home. The rep said “NO” — she said under my policy, it’s covered the lost of passport and not a driver license. Do you really need a passport to travel domestically? Anyway, the TSA did allow me to get through the security. When I got home, I called their claim department, just to find out how this insurance company is doing their business. The lady I spoke to that day didn’t say much or offer any help. I had a feeling that she’s trained to do just that. When I asked her “Does my policy cover the lost of wallet?” I remember she said one short word “No” — I could hear her wrong, but I am 100% sure that the answer was NOT a “Yes”. I was pissed off. In my policy, it is clearly stated that it’s covered the lost of baggage or personal items up to $500. In my mind, it’s not about my wallet (I had no valuable things in it other than the wallet itself), but it’s more of a psychological feeling of being ripped off by this insurance company for years without knowing it. It’s really bothered my feeling to these days. I didn’t file a claim, not worth it to do a business with this company.

Squaremouth.com (where I bought all my travel insurance products from) has been very helpful with my complain about this travel insurance company — they quickly sent me a refund back. I am very happy with Squaremouth.com and will continue to do business with them again, but I would definitely NOT do any business with Travel Insured ever again.

I am very disappointed with this company!

I travelled for emergency reason and had a very horrible trip with my family (delay, missed connection and etc.) As they requested I called and informed the agent that sent me all the claim forms.

When I came back to the State, I filed my claim (delay, interruption and baggage). I am the one calling everyday to check the status of my claim. Nobody contacted me. When I spoke tone of the agent this week, she told me that my case manager filed my claim and just waiting for further documents and information from me; however, that case manager never contacted me via email or phone call. Furthermore, when I was talking to that agent, she kept putting me on hold in order to get information from “my case manager”. I found it so disrespectful!! I chose this company because I am a member of USAA and I thought I was in good hand…

In early January, 2012 my wife and I began planning a trip to England and France. We were supposed to depart toward the end of April, the 27th, I believe. Then, about a week before our departure my father had a very sudden and unexpected health crisis which resulted in his hospitalization, four days in a coma, and several subsequent days in intensive care.

From the time I filed my first claim with Travel Insured International all I got from them was the run-around. They needed letters from doctors; they needed attending physicians to fill out forms; they needed copies of medical records for the period of time my father was in the hospital. They needed credit card records and receipts as well as all manner of other documentation and then when they got all of this……they did nothing.

I waited and waited; I wrote and asked what the problem was. Their response was to again ask for all of the documentation I had previously provided them with. They kept referring, over and over again in their letters to a “Tour Company or Travel Supplier”. The trip I planned and then had to cancel was put together, assembled and arranged entirely by me. There was no “Tour Company or Travel Supplier”. There never was any “Tour Company or Travel Supplier”. No matter how many times I told them this they never accepted the fact that there was no “Tour Company or Travel Supplier”.

Over time the many copies I sent them of my credit card statements showing pre-paid expenses were all but ignored. Their receipt was never acknowledged in any of their correspondence. They would simply repeat the request in the next letter.

They complained that expenses were expressed in British pounds they were somehow unable to convert. Yet, my credit card statements reflected all expenses in U.S. dollars.

It was not until July 22 that my wife and I received a check for a portion of our airfare expenses.

As of today, August 4, 2012 I am still trying to get them to send us a check for land expenses, hotel deposits lost, train tickets unused, rooms paid-for but unused, theater tickets, and tours we were unable to show up for.

The whole point of having travel insurance is so that in an emergency one does not get stuck with huge losses. (My wife and I had spent more than $8,000.00 in preparing for our trip.). Now, in addition to having cancelled our trip I am left with a father in hospice care and a venal insurance company that seems determined not to honor its commitment to us.

Probably the only satisfaction I will derive from this whole experience will be in letting readers know just what an inept, disorganized and uncooperative bunch of crooks these people are.

There are plenty of other insurance options out there. Pick one; you couldn’t possibly do any worse.

We are very sorry that Mr. McDaniel and his wife were not able to take their trip and had an unhappy outcome to their claim. Travel Insured International reports that the airfare claim has been paid due to the correct documents which were received in order to process the claim. The insured submitted additional expenses that were not originally claimed. We do not have all the documentation required for these expenses; therefore the analyst requested the additional documentation.

I have purchased policies from TII every year for at least 10 years covering an annual ski trip to the Alps. In 2011
I was unable to take the trip due to a prexisting medical condition. TII provided courteous service but I did have to call and write many times and they always needed one more thing. Thankfully my ski club travel agent assisted as did my doctor. My claim for unrefundable $1400 deposit was paid about 12 weeks after original claim date. The claim process was a bit of a battle but in the end they paid.
Now I am recovering from bilateral knee replacements and considering the possibility of taking the march 2013 ski trip. I want to sign up, get insured and hope by then I can go. Reading all negatives gives me pause. Wondering if they are not all the same.

Travel Insurance Intl. is a SCAM! Avoid at all costs.

Our family was to take a trip to Switzerland to visit my Wife’s family in December of 2011. My wife purchased flight insurance from Travel Insurance Intl. in March 2011. I was diagnosed with Immulogical Urticaria in July 2011 which is a systemic, painful reaction to heat and other stress brought on by allergies. It began to act up about a month before our trip and my doctor advised me by phone, not to take a flight over 3 hours in length as there may be no way to get any relief in-flight. Since the flight to Switzerland is 12 hours I made the decision not to go with my family on this trip. We filed a claim and it was denied because they said there was no record of me being treated in December, even though my doctor told them, in the Insurance Companies own form, that he advised me not to take a flight over 3 hours in length. Are they trying to say that a doctor cannot advise a patient by phone not to do something. These are just greedy bastards that will take yiour money and deny, deny, deny coverage to keep from paying out claims. Yoiu might as well burn your money rather than give it to Travel Insurance Intl. for flight insurance.

We were very sorry about Mr. Ashley’s medical problem and his strong dissatisfaction with his customer experience with Travel Insured. The policy Mr. Ashley purchased provides coverage for trip cancellation if a sickness results in medically imposed restrictions as certified by a physician at the time of loss preventing their continued participation in the trip.

Mr. Ashley cancelled his trip on December 13, 2011. According to the medical documentation received from his treating physician, the last time he sought medical advice and/or care for his condition was July 11, 2011.

Since at the time of loss a physician did not certify an illness resulted in medically imposed restrictions, benefits under the policy are not payable. Therefore, his claim was appropriately declined. At Travel Insured we are never happy to deny a claim. Over the past 5 years, I have spent $3505.00 on trip insurance with Travel Insured International (TII). I made no claims until this year. I spent $795.00 on insurance for an Alaskan trip which had to be cancelled because my wife’s father became confined to a nursing home due to 4 hospital visits within 2 months. We were advised by his physician not to take the trip. I submitted all forms and was denied a claim of $1858.40 because TII insisted it was a pre-existing condition and that I had not taken out the insurance within 14 days of the down payment of the trip. When I requested a refund of the $795.00, ITT claimed that I had only 14 days after taking out the policy to get a refund. Since ITT was aware that over 14 days had elapsed between my trip down payment and my payment of $795.00 to TII, I feel that they should have notified me that problems could occur, as they did. They had no problem accepting my $3505.00, but a simple request for a refund was denied. This is not ethical business practice. I used TII because USAA endorsed them. USAA tried to get them to refund my $795.00, but TII would not relent. I do not know why USAA continues to recommend this company. I hope other potential customers will beware when considering policies underwritten by TII.

    Thank you,

Under the policy the insured purchased, Pre-Existing medical conditions are excluded.
In order to waive the Pre-Existing medical condition exclusion, you must purchase the plan within fourteen (14) days of the initial Trip deposit; for the full non-refundable cost of Your Trip; the booking for the Trip must be the first and only booking for this travel period and destination; You are not disabled from travel at the time You pay the plan cost.

Pre-Existing as defined by the policy is any Injury, Sickness or condition of yourself, a Traveling Companion or You and/or Your Traveling Companion’s Family Member for which medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment was recommended or received within the 180 day period ending on the Effective Date.

The Effective Date of the policy is May 4, 2011.

According to the documentation submitted, the insured’s father-in-law received medical advice and/or care within the 180 days period prior to the Effective Date for the same illness in which he cancelled his trip for. Since the illness for which the insured cancelled is a Pre-Existing condition, it is excluded under the policy and therefore benefits are not payable.

Although the insured has been a valued customer for several years, we must pay all claims according to the policy language.

This company is a scam. I bought the ‘Any reason cancel’ policy for my family 6 months before we traveled to Turkey. I notified them 2 weeks before our trip to say one of our children will not be traveling due to summer college committments.
Before we travelled the company sent me paperwork to claim.

After our trip, I am getting the run around. First I have to get confirmation from 3 airlines to say my daughter did not fly. That is hard enough to get from international airlines but Now the company tells me that I had to notify the 3 airlines 48 hours before the flight. This is not in their policy and I was not told that by the 2 representatives that I spoke to before the trip. The customer service rep was very rude stating that that is a policy rule even though it is not stated in the policy and I was not told about it.
I did try to notify all 3 airlines 2 weeks before the flight, I have phone records to prove it but I was unable to get through to 2 of them. (With some charter airlines it is impossible to have any human contact)

    Response from Travel Insured International

We did not provide the quality customer care service that is the TII way.

Our claims customer service representative should have recognized that Travel Insured was notified of the claim on 06/23/11, thereby meeting the contractual policy requirement that the insured be prevented from taking the trip for all reasons up to 48 hours prior to departure.

We understand that it is difficult to get refund information from certain airlines, and after a review of all available documentation we are paying the claim for $372.59.

We have reviewed this claim with our representative and we apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused our customer.

We now plan to take this further!

I wanted to BUY — i.e. pay them money — and they didn’t seem to be able to pick up the phone. I can not even imagine what it would be like if I needed to make a claim. “Cancel Anytime”….only not really. I’m out $400 for “cancelling anytime” due to emergency dental work appointments made (2 root canals because of excrutiating tooth pain) and they refuse to pay my claim because my emergency is not a “medical” emergency and somehow they deduced that I cancelled my ticket (purchased through priceline name your own price which you cannot cancel or get a refund for). We’re a military family and due to my dental emergency, I had to cancel my trip to see family and now I’m out $400 for the trip and $66 for the insurance that was worthless when it really mattered. try another company.

    Response from Travel Insured International:
After checking with its claim department managers, Travel Insured International reports that the above Cancel for Any Reason claim has been paid.

    RESPONSE TO TRAVEL INSURED

No thank you… I’m staying anonymous due to your “customer service” personnel threatening to turn my case over to your lawyer simply because I had a legitimate complaint–the intent was crystal clear, you would use your attorney to make me go away with nothing for my claim and probably try to silence me in the process. This “chilling effect” practice of implied threat is abhorable. If I was out a lot of money for my incident i would have immediately hired an attorney to go after TII when the above statement was made to me. But since I am mostly out on the amount of the coverage, it’s not worth being litigious (as it seems to be for TII). I look at the money I wasted on the TII coverage as a lesson–one I hope others learn from and spend their hard earned dollars elsewhere. My only objective now is to relate my viewpoint in many places and ways, and hopefully cause some future customers of TII to consider alternatives who might treat them with more respect. (Note: I am pleased that so far two of my friends have heeded my advice and gone elsewhere for travel insurance). So, no full name, no policy number, because TII you already had your chance and your response was despicable. Damn your polite, “wish we could help if we only had your name” response. If you had my name all I’d get is a letter from your attorney. You HAD my name and your actions spoke volumes about your company. I repeat, caveat emptor with TII.

Buyer beware! Travel Insured Int’l is just a middleman, something they are a bit sly about–they don’t actually do anything but take your money and vend out the “service” although their marketing might lead you to believe otherwise. The 24/7 Worldwide Assistance (the key customer interface) is done by an unnamed 3rd party and the underwriting is also 3rd party. In our experience, TII is OK until they have your money, then you are a nuisance to them. Other reviewers have detailed many issues with TII, so to be brief, the 24/7 Worldwide Assistance doesn’t work as advertised, there are onerous and unnecessary paperwork req’s for claims and when I mentioned I wanted to make a complaint, I was asked to put it in writing so they could have their lawyer respond! Now that’s customer service! Threaten to sic attorneys on you for having the audacity to actually complain about service. Fortunately, we’re not out much money for our “event” so we’ve walked away (quickly) from TII, not worth our time (or yours) to deal with dishonorable and unethical cretins who throw their customers and vendors (underwriters and assistance line) under the bus and take no responsibility themselves. As one poster said, what goes around comes around. I hope to see TII on this list soon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_business_failures

    RESPONSE FROM TRAVEL INSURED INTERNATIONAL

We ask that “Theo B. ” kindly further identify himself with full first and last name on his Travel Insured plan so that we can investigate to verify whether or not his service needs were properly addressed and whether more could have been done to provide emergency assistance. Thank you. Travel Insured International

I am totally disgusted with this company! Within one week following the horrific earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan, my husband and I decided to cancel our upcoming trip to that country. Our decision to cancel was based on all of the following criteria: As of the date of our cancellation, we had read the US State Department’s official Travel Advisory, urging Americans to NOT GO to Japan at that time, and consider leaving Japan immediately if they were already there… In addition, we had read up-to-the-minute reports of continuing severe aftershocks occurring near the island of Honshu, where Tokyo is located, a series of rolling 3-hour-+ blackouts in Tokyo, severe disruptions to communications (including cellphone capability, etc.), and — most significantly — a ominous and widening threat of nuclear radiation headed towards Tokyo. There were also significant disruptions to transportation in and out of the city and surrounding areas.

We immediately contacted Travel Insured International, to institute a claim for the 12% Cancellation Fee that was being imposed upon our refund by the touring agency (amounting to $755), and for reimbursement of the “reinstatement fee” of $150 charged to my account by American Airlines, to reinstate my Frequent Flier miles that I had used for my air ticket to Japan. We had carefully read the Policy that we had bought from Travel Insured, and noted that under the heading “Natural Disasters,” it stated that reimbursement of travel charges (and cancellation fees) would be covered in the event that our “accommodations in the city of destination,” i.e., Tokyo in our case, “were made uninhabitable.”

We certainly believed that the terrible situation that existed in Japan, generally, as well as in Tokyo — not to mention the fact that our own State Department had issued a Travel Advisory URGING US NOT TO GO TO JAPAN AT THAT TIME(!) — were sufficient to satisfy the “uninhabitable” clause in the Policy. After all, it is not simply the physical destruction of a property that can make it uninhabitable! Surely, an earthquake every hour, the looming radiation cloud approaching the city, and the general misery of the entire country after such an unprecedented disaster qualify as making it “uninhabitable!”

Not so, says Travel Insured International. After completely IGNORING FOR SIX WEEKS (no acknowledgement of any kind about having heard from me!) our submission of required and supporting documents and a personal letter to them, I finally called to speak with a Claims Manager. Leaving a voicemail message for him, I heard back four days later from a much lower-level subordinate, telling me that they were waiting for a response from my tour agency, to verify when THEY had cancelled our trip! (It was clear in my letter that WE had cancelled…) I said that I required direct contact with the Manager, Mr. David Dagostino.

That contact finally occurred a day later, and was completely unsatisfactory. I was furious at the company’s poor (extremely slow, or non-existent) response to my initial claim materials, and to the fact that they had obviously not even read my letter, with its details. I was also furious that Mr. Dagostino had shoved my case back “downstairs,” to an underling, after my voicemail message to HIM… He said he would look into my claim personally, and get back to me promptly.

Three or four days later, I received a letter in the mail, denying my claim, on the grounds that our accommodations were not, indeed “uninhabitable,” and that we, not the tour agency, had cancelled the trip.

My husband and I travel internationally very often, and have never encountered such a situation with any company I have dealt with. I consider that Travel Insured International totally misrepresents itself as operating in its policyholders’ interests, that it is in the business purely for profit and nothing else, and that its business practices are absolutely awful. They obviously do not like having to pay on legitimate claims, whether or not they fit the “letter” of the policy to a “t.”.

I intend to file a formal complaint with the Connecticut Insurance Department, and with the Better Business Bureau, but I decided that a Review would be a good pace to start, as a warning to potential victims of this company’s shenanigans!

Bottom line: DO NOT PURCHASE YOUR TRAVEL INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPANY!!! YOU WILL BE SORRY!!!

    RESPONSE FROM TRAVEL INSURED INTERNATIONAL

Travel Insured Intl. response to Marijo Hennagin-Mazur complaint #16 of May 30, 2011:

The ferocious tsunami and 8.9- magnitude earthquake that hit Japan affected millions of travelers worldwide. While Travel Insured International (TII) strives to review claims and return calls in a timely fashion, world events occurring at that time inundated the Claims Department and we were not able to provide the quality service we normally provide..

The insurance plan Ms. Hennagin-Mazur purchased provides Trip Cancellation coverage for specified events. According to the documentation submitted, Ms. Hennagin-Mazur cancelled the trip due to the situation in Japan resulting from the earthquake, tsunami, and radiation.

A specified event covered under the plan is Natural Disaster at the site of Your destination which renders Your destination accommodations uninhabitable. TII did not receive any documentation to show that any destination accommodations for Ms. Hennagin-Mazur were made uninhabitable by the Natural Disasters, benefits are not payable.

The plan also provides coverage for Travel Supplier Cancellation. TII looks for ways to pay claims; therefore, they contacted the Travel Supplier to determine whether they cancelled the trip. Since they did not cancel the trip, benefits are not payable under this benefit either.

Second post from original poster 5/8/2011

It is obvious that a high percentage of people reviewing Travel Insured International are treated poorly. This company is not in business to insure. They are in business to receive premiums and then find a weasel way to deny claims. One purchases insurance in case travel is interrupted. My wife suffered a series of four Delirium Episodes in the first five days of an 11 day Caribbean Cruise. We had to disembark in Costa Rica and fly home. Travel Insured International denied the claim because she was not seen by a ship’s doctor before leaving the ship. Why would that have been necessary? The doctor would have diagnosed Alzheimer’s Disease which we already knew. There is no known treatment for Alzheimer’s or for Delirium Episodes which are suffered by a small percentage of Alzheimer’s patients. Waiting for a doctor to do nothing would have been stupid. But, it appears that you have to be stupid to trust Travel Insured International.

Reply from Travel Insured International 5/9/2011

We are very sorry that the Swearingens were not able to continue their cruise vacation and had an unhappy outcome to their claim. Please note that Travel Insured is required to follow disclosure rules that do not permit private medical records to be publicly disclosed. However, our claim department management has confirmed that the Swearingens’ claim was properly declined due to the absence of any physician’s certification that would have restricted their continued participation on their trip. Such certification is required for a Trip Interruption to be covered.

I was supposed to fly out to Ohio for a 18 hour vacation with my one year old twin neices. My flight out was cancelled, so I was not in Ohio to take the return flight. Said there needed to be a 24 interruption of services. How would that help me, and why did I buy this? Would not file my claim, made no effort to help, said that their 10 page packet of legalese was “not fine print”. Yeah right. Very dissatisfied with this company, will not use them again. Is all travel insurance like this? Is the whole industry a scam, or just these guys?

Travel Insured International Response – May 5, 2011

We are very sorry that Mr. Miller did not have the opportunity to enjoy his trip. However, we have no record of any claim application that was ever received from Mr. Miller. Travel Insured customers who are delayed due to flight cancellations may qualify for Trip Delay and Missed Connection benefits. A Trip Cancellation claim, however, requires a cessation of common carrier service for a minimum 24 consecutive hours for coverage to apply as stated in our policy.

Very disappointed in this travel insurance company. Will never use them again.!!!!!! Took at least 10 phone calls and e-mails to get this resovled. Have been promised check for $600. Hope this is true. Good luck if you have problems with your travel. You will need some tranquillizers if you have to deal wiith these people!!!!

    RESPONSE FROM TRAVEL INSURED INTERNATIONAL

We sincerely regret that the Powells had an unsatisfactory experience with our claim service and we apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused them. Our goal is to process claims fairly and promptly. When their claim was reported we were implementing a new document imaging system and several irrelevant claim forms were sent to them which caused a delay. A check for $600 was sent to them on March 28, 2011.

My experience with this company was horrible. After six months, they finally declined my claim which included a flight that I was given a boarding pass for but no ticket …which I had to purchase another ticket before I could get home…..and a total disregard for the facts of the case which was a nightmare from start to finish.. In addition….their attitude was definitely not customer service based but was condescending and certainly not speedy.

Run, don’t walk to another company and pass it on to your travel agent.

This was the first time I had ever purchased travel insurance which was offered by our vacation home rental agency. Two weeks prior to our vacation, I had an accident which disabled me for six weeks. I filled out the claim form with my doctor, mailed it in, and was reimbursed for my rental costs in less than four weeks – no additional information was required. Customer service was polite, helpful, and very professional. I would definitely purchase this insurance again!

This is a stand-up outfit. I had to submit a claim that they could easily have chosen to deny and not been judged unreasonable. It had to do with unusually calm weather causing a YACHT sailing from Bermuda to the Azores to arrive several days late, thereby causing me to forfeit my nonrefundable plane ticket back to the US. After furnishing written declarations from a recognized weather expert who advises sailing craft in the Atlantic, who confirmed the unusual conditions and that we had allowed more than enough time for a normal passage, TAI sent me a check for the amount that would have been due if a scheduled cruise ship had arrived late. I would not have blamed them for rejecting this claim and was immensely impressed at their prompt and favorable response.

    Response from Travel Insured International
We regret that Ms. Parks was unable to take her trip due to losing her passport,
and had an unpleasant experience with our company. When she called our Claim
Department to inquire about filing a Trip Cancellation claim due to the loss of her
passport, our claim representative accurately informed Ms. Parks that her
insurance plan does not include the loss of an insured’s passport as a covered
reason for Trip Cancellation. A Travel Insured plan may provide emergency
assistance and some reimbursement of unplanned expenses due to loss of a
passport that occurs during an insured trip. However, Ms. Parks was able to
avoid the frustration of filing a claim for Trip Cancellation for which she had no
covered reason for reimbursement available under her plan. Members of our claim
department and their management team are always readily available to our
customers, and they can be reached at 1-800-243-2440 to discuss a claim filing or

I cannot say enough good about this company. On my trip, I lost my passport and had a death in the family within the first 3 days of my 14 day vacation. Travel Insured Int’l gave me impeccable service from outside the US — helping me find where I needed to go to get my passport replaced as well as connecting me with the airline when I was unable to do so from my own phone. My claim was paid promptly and with no issues whatsoever. Thank you for the great service!!

I purchased a plan from Travel Insured in the spring of 2009 to cover a proposed trip to France for my wife and me in September. I was not able to travel because of a sciatica problem – I could not walk up steps or inclines without a great deal of effort or pain. My doctor recommended that we postpone the trip. It was evident from Day 1 that this outfit did not want to honor my claim. I also found them to be unresponsive, as the writer below states, and quite nasty on occasion. They have a person named Sarah Raymer who should not be working with customers – even some of her fellow employees make remarks about her attitude. They promised to return calls on numerous occasions and did not. They claimed they had not received information from my doctor on a number of occasions, but whenever I called the doctor, they said they had sent the required information and ended up sending it again (and again!). Finally the company denied my claim due to a ‘pre-existing condition’. My doctor sent them a letter stating that this was an acute incident, and not pre-existing, but they refuse to honor the claim. I’ve reported Travel Insured to the Better Business Bureau of Connecticut, but they cannot do anything for me. I agree with the ‘what goes around comes around’ sentiments. And anybody who is considering purchasing insurance from these people should rethink and go to someone else. Forewarned is forearmed!

    Response from Travel Insured International:
We were very sorry about Mr. McKaig’s medical problem and his strong
dissatisfaction with his customer experience with Travel Insured’s Claim
Department. At Travel Insured we are never happy to deny a claim. Travel
insurance policies generally exclude coverage of pre-existing medical conditions in
order maintain the cost of insurance at affordable rates for most travelers.
A pre-existing medical condition, as defined in Mr. McKaig’s policy, means “any
injury, sickness or condition for which medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment
was received during the 180-day period ending on the effective date of the
insurance coverage.” Although most Travel Insured plans provide a waiver
allowing for coverage of the pre-existing condition if the plan is purchased within a
specified period of time after the initial trip deposit is made, Mr. McKaig
purchased a plan that does not include this waiver. Mr. McKaig signed a medical
authorization and the medical records reported that he did receive medical
treatment and advice for his medical condition during the 180-day ending on the
effective date of his plan. His claim, therefore, was appropriately declined.

I was unable to board my return flight out of La Paz, Bolivia due to altitude sickness. Called their worldwide assistance number and was told by a customer service rep that it qualified as a trip interruption, everything would be covered, and that I could go ahead and book a new flight – all the paperwork would be sent to my home address in the USA and not to worry about it until then.

When I returned home and filed all of the paperwork, they sent me a nasty letter saying that I hadn’t provided proper documentation. I was out $1,000 for the flight. Seems like the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.

    Response from Travel Insured International:
We sincerely regret any misunderstanding on the part of our customer Julia
regarding our claim process. Our representatives do, indeed, forward claim
applications and materials to customers’ homes for their completion and return.
However, additional required medical documentation supporting the claim must
be provided by the insured. Under the headline “Claims Procedure,” our policy
instructions remind customers to “obtain medical statements from the doctors in
attendance in the country where the accident or illness occurred.” In Julia’s claim
the required medical documentation from Bolivia was not submitted. As a result,
there was no support for our examiners to verify her claim as required by our
underwriters. Members of our claim department and their management team are

I purchased their plan prior to my trip and Had many issues with the trip overseas eventually not being able to complete my journey. They understood the issues I faced but would not pay back any monies as there was not specfic to one of the cover items. Due to safety reasons and riots at the airport we removed ourselfs from the airport for safety reaasons and could not get on another flight to our destination thus we rerturned home.Because the airline(another country) would not state “strike” they would not resolve.Clkear and simple safety was an issue and was documented but they refused to pay. I would srongly recomend finding a more reputable company to deal with. These people are in business clearly not to pay.Customer service is less then standard as to comunication, and follow ups. This company clearly is fiancial trouble as the management team is unresponsive.Remember who you are contracting with review consumers reviews and read the policies.I did not do my up front homework and paid an expensive price. The good news is for the folks I dealt with…..what goes around comes around.

    Response from Travel Insured International
It is regrettable that Mr. Kervick had an unpleasant travel experience in which he
mentions several unspecified “issues.” Travel Insured plans can provide
reimbursement of prepaid travel costs for specifically covered reasons, none of
which was a given reason for this trip being cut short. Airport worker
demonstrations are not a covered reason for Trip Interruption, nor is avoiding
travel because of fear for one’s safety unless a covered terrorist event or political
upheaval occurred, which was not indicated here. A labor strike can be a covered
reason, but no such strike enabling coverage was documented, and the claim was
denied. On a separately raised issue, Travel Insured is financially sound and is a
reputable company serving the travel community since 1994.
At Travel Insured we are never happy to deny a claim. Members of our claim
department and their management team are always readily available to our
